So I was kinda thinking, about the potential of horde mode, hope this is where I go to say about modes that are already being made up, sorry if it isn't. Was thinking there could be a story linked idea behind it! Don’t know if anyone remembers stuff like LOTR: Conquest but I was thinking it could run like a series of defensive areas. If you lose them you must fall back to the next, say helping defend a space port. The last defensive area being the only thing stopping the enemy from overwhelming it. Making for an instant loss if that last part gets broken through/destroyed with dialogue. The first area would be the hardest to defend and the last being the easiest. You could by doing this have the imperial guard, maybe tanks even help you defend the areas. They’d get whittled down eventually if not helped, allowing the later waves easier passage towards the objectives. Maybe those objectives would be a gate, say a generator that if taken down powers down defensive turrets making you have to fall back to a better position or be overwhelmed, or vehicles that are allowing people for whatever reason to escape to the back lines, once the vehicles are destroyed maybe the leader on voice lines orders a retreat based on any of these stating “We’ve done all we can.” You could go more in depth in this allowing for defensive setup, turrets, mines, temporary barricades that take time to destroy for the enemy or just make them have to climb over. Helping to control the flow. (Making for different setups too dependent on enemy as the smaller tyranids just climb over them not destroy them.) You could have paid for squads to add to that of guardsmen to hold a angle looking into that blocker so they can stop the climbers from getting over it and doing further damage to i, that if not properly managed would get overwhelmed in later waves. Maybe at the end of say 10 waves after a boss you can get your player squad to vote to stay for another 10 waves for further and better rewards or evacuate. For the 3 hold out areas you could have the leader (Commenter be them say space marine, mechanicus or guard comment on it, saying like… “Emperors teeth! Without those guns we have no choice but to fall back, save who you can leave who you have to, Emperor protect them” Doing the horde mode this way would allow for a forever horde mode for those looking for that, without bothering those that maybe have to go at points. As in they’d still get rewarded without leaving mid match thus killing a run. It also allows for player investment in the situations. Awesome things like tanks and walkers done in this would also be made possible to be with the player without causing problems or needing to be underpowered as they’d eventually get destroyed if they had health bars and made stationary. Allowing for cool moments, at the beginnings as you’d have say a leman russ, the guard and maybe mounted bolters set up and towards the harder waves without proper team cohesion could be destroyed, assets like say the tank being lost for good, with you maybe hearing their last moments before the horde set off their ammo causing a explosion that sends enemies, killing some in the process. Maybe even have say fixed mounted bolter positions that are there from the get go get burrowed under/have the wall broken down next to it to allow another path to open and make the situations more dire and tense due to sudden things like that. A example that could tie it to the story is the space marine defence of the fortress on Avarax! Or the Space marine and guard defence area in Demerium. As in the part before the story gang go to retrieve/save the company standard! Sorry if I’ve rabbled on for too long, I just think this has a lot of potential to be more than just another simple horde mode.
