I am not a programmer, nor am I in the gaming industry; however, the business aspect of games and game development is interesting to me. I have seen and used mods for games like Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, and many others. Some of these modders are quite talented and implement things that have, at times, been of equal quality or even better than the original developers. You would think that the modding community would be a talent recruiter's dream. Now I understand that certain aspects of games are proprietary, and yet, I have always wondered why there aren't programs in place where modders would be compensated if they developed a mod that could then be implemented into a game like Space Marine 2. I understand that some games are more accessible to the modding community than others. It just seems, from my point of view, that there is an untapped talent pool out there with the skills to fix things for free on their own time. It makes me wonder what people could do with a little monetary incentive. Or maybe I am just completely ignorant as to how these things work, it wouldn't be the first time.
