I have a blast playing the demo, really great and beautiful game!

There is some stuff I already agree with in the post of NakedDave so I will try not to repeat them here:

Controls -

  • Dozer blade control could be as such:
    • Delete the Marching mode function
    • Add the ability to turn on/off Low gear for every mode
    • Add a raise/lower button to every mode
      • Raising the blade would put it in the highest position (like in Marching mode)
      • Lowering the blade would put it back to its last position
      • Raising the blade in Asphalt destruction and sand flattening would turn off the function as well, lowering the blade would turn it back on
    • Invert the direction of control for the boom and blade:
      • PULLING a computer mouse should raise the blade, PUSHING should lower it, just like a joystick control for an airplane.
    • Put the blade swivel on buttons instead of the mouse. It is usually the blade tilt and movement up/down you want to dynamically control while driving, not the blade swivel, so this movement could be set on Q and E for example.
  • Dump truck
    • Add a single button that would fully raise or fully lower the bed, the priority being to lower the bed if it was already raised half-way.
  • Crane
    • Bring back the ability to select a target with the mouse on PC, having to "scroll" through different targets is cumbersome.
    • Crane arm movement should be a mode on its own, just like in Snowrunner. At no point in the game is it usefull to drive and move a boom arm at the same time, it will always be one or the other. This would reduce the amount of controls to remember and display on the screen, I always find myself having to figure which combination of buttons I have to press to reel the winch, rotate the boom, rotate the load, etc., too complicated for nothing. And seeing the amound of crane work this game will have us do, it is much better to keep it simpler.
    • Activating the Anchors should turn on the parking brake as well.
    • Slow down the cargo rotation but just a tiny bit
    • When folding the crane, if we were in the camera view of the tip of the boom, the camera should go back to the middle/default camera view of the truck. The "cabin" aim camera view has a weird limitation where you cannot bring it low/at the horizon
  • Logging crane
    • The same crane movement suggestions applies to the logging crane as well, make it a mode of its own.
    • The display on screen for the two direction of movement (up/down, left/right) is too close to the vehicle. I found myself having trouble to see where I was positioning my logs in the Forwarder because my view was obstructed by those displays.
  • Scout winch
    • Add the ability to select a target with the mouse on PC. There were some places where I couldn't winch to because the attached point and winch point needed to be in direct line of sight from one another, no obstruction in between. In another instance I couldn't attach to a point because I had to move the camera to "aim" at the attaching point, although I couldn't move the camera closer to the ground, making it impossible to aim directly at the winching point.
  • Stump grinder
    • Add a raise/lower function when the grinder is turned on
  • General
    • For every crane control (log, crane, tree harvester) bring the rotation left/right control to something else than the mouse. The reason being when I try to just raise or lower a boom, I always find myself turning it as well, messing with what I was aiming for. I would rather have the left/right be assigned to something like Q/E but keep the raise/lower to the mouse. However, please note that I enjoy much more the control implemented in Snowrunner for example (with only buttons, never the mouse) because mouse control does not give the ability to aim, position properly, you will always overshoot, and if you combine two movement like you did in Roadcraft, trying to move only one will eventually make you move the other direction by mistake.

Bridges -

  • Allow for better positioning or allow for more collision/interference when planning a bridge construction. On multiple occasions I tried to build a bridge over what I wanted to cross, but the overlay never turned green, meaning the bridge was colliding with something I cannot see from the top-down map view. It dose not give the freedom advertised.
