Roadcraft is a beautiful game. The maps and lighting are a huge upgrade over SR/Exp but the clean trucks still look flat and one-dimensional like the previous games.
The paint looks more like a matte plastic toy than the richness and depth you’d see on a newer-style work truck IRL.
I hope I am wrong, but It doesn’t appear that RC is using multi-layered car paint-style shaders/materials. (Clear Coat: Roughness/Opacity/Normal) I would love to see the option, even if it is just for the modders to use.
Just about every modern car game has car paint-style shaders/paint and seeing a proper dusty glossy or metallic paint job in Roadcraft would be amazing.
I’m not talking about show car paint jobs, just look at the glossy or metallic paint options offered on the new Mack Pinnacle. It would have been so refreshing to see this truck done in a proper metallic red paint for the SR DLC.
I recently put some of my SnowRunner mods (this is modder JohnJohnHotRod) in UE5 and was blown away at how good my mods looked with the same textures I used in SR. It’s a night and day difference. I just used a car paint clear coat over a metallic base instead of the lifeless gloss paint that we need to use now.
Thanks!
