trying to play with a friend on ps5, im on switch, have troubleshooted everythign but still cannot connect, wondering if the software version difference would cause this? switch version 1.0.35 , ps5 version is 1.0.37. connecting on switch to his game with invite code

yes exactly the case, because the latest update (with the Kenworth Dual pack) isn't available yet for the Switch, you cannot currently play with your friend on PS5 who does have the latest game version, nothing you can do until Nintendo gets their fingers out of their a*se and approves it, I am a bit worried for you however that no news has been posted here (or in the current "Drivers Diary" detailing the reason why the Switch update is taking so long.
