I know many people would stone me now, but could trailers be vulnerable. Maybe the goods too. The trailers could be repaired and the freight would have to stay above a certain percentage to complete a successful haul.

Sounds like a Hard Mode thing to me, but it could work.

The trailers could have wheel damage and might need spare wheels. - For example the Fuel Carrier Semi Trailer already carries a spare wheel on the underside, that currently can't be used for anything, and that could change.

They could maybe have vulnerable suspension too. And maybe vulnerable tanks, where applicable.

I could see that in Hard Mode or in New Game + as an option.
