February Community Update

Hello Space Marines! ⚔️

Let’s recap what occurred in February on Space Marine 2 a bit and then we’ll tackle future topics! We know you're eager for Patch 7 to drop! There's still a bit of a wait, but in the meantime, we'll be sure to tease you a little.

FEBRUARY RECAP

This month we released the 6.0 Datavault Update, containing new free and Season Pass content. You may check the entire changelog here! 📖

Mostly, the biggest features that were added to the game are:

  • The Datavault, with new cosmetic rewards

  • The Biovore

  • New PvP Map “Tomb”

  • Salamanders Champion Pack

  • Raven Guard Cosmetic Pack including its Successor Chapters

  • FOV Slider

  • Perks rework

Following that, we released the 6.1 Hotfix to help with a few remaining bugs and connectivity issues, mostly. Again, you can read the patch notes here.

We are aware that with these two updates, a few issues remain, such as:

  • FPS drops

  • Too many spore mines spawning at the same time

We’re actively working on it.

Hotfix 6.2 will arrive next week. It shall fix the spore mines issue and bring some balancing tweaks.

IMPERIAL VIGIL COMMUNITY EVENT

We heard about your desire to have an emblem-less Mk VIII Errant Helmet, so here’s your chance! ✨ This cosmetic is entirely free, the only requirement is to link your PROS account to Space Marine 2.

Here’s your brief: “Achieve a victory with each of 6 classes in Operations Mode to win the emblem-less Mark VIII Errant Helmet”

The event lasts until March 3rd.

NOTE ABOUT COMMUNITY EVENTS

We have noted that the Community Events have received cold feedback since we introduced them as an additional way to unlock cosmetic items. We saw that many of you mentioned FOMO generated by the events. Rest assured, we are not looking to transform Space Marine 2 into a full live service game. The items available through events WILL be available later, for everyone. We want Community Events to be a way to unlock the items in advance, for the most dedicated players, and not to be a source of frustration and stress for everyone.

However, that means we must provide a smooth experience in unlocking said items, which has not been the case so far. We deeply apologize for the trouble, and are currently working on a simplified process to unlock the items, to make the experience less constraining.

WHAT’S COMING…

The 7.0 Update is in the making! ✨ We’re working on it and we’ll give you a more precise date once we get one. 🙌

This update will bring several awaited features:

  • One Chapter Pack

  • One Champion Pack

  • Private PvP lobbies

  • A new weapon (only in PvE for now)

  • New Operation

  • Weapon perks rebalance

  • Class weapon loadouts rework

  • PvE Prestige Rank: once you reach level 25 on a class, you can buy a Prestige Level that will unlock a unique Prestige Perk. Choose them wisely, because you won’t be able to change your selected Prestige Perks before unlocking the 4 Prestige Levels. On top of that power boost, each class will have a unique cosmetic reward that emphasizes the class’ iconic armour part.

  • and more!

Stay tuned, we’ll soon come with more info.

HORDE MODE

…..So apparently you’re waiting for the Horde Mode.

You’re very eager to get more info on the Horde Mode, it’s one of our top priorities right now.

One thing we can say is that it will be very different from the Space Marine 1 Horde Mode, and that there are surprises we can’t wait for you to find out about. 😉

Once we get really interesting things to show you about it, we will do it!

Bear with us 🙏

PUBLIC TEST SERVER

We’re also excited to share our goal to launch our Public Test Servers  in just a few weeks! 🙌 Expect it to take place in March and before Patch 7.

Once we get a specific date, we’ll make an official statement on our socials and Discord!

This will give you early access to upcoming features and the opportunity to share your feedback, helping us refine the content before its official release.

It will exclusively happen on Steam, neither on EGS nor consoles. It will be very easy to install because it will act as a separate game.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK ON THE NEW ABSOLUTE DIFFICULTY

 - A word from our Game Director

“We would like to hear your opinion regarding Absolute difficulty.

Overall, we are quite happy with how intense the difficulty itself is. We see that it requires a lot of concentration and we feel like it’s fun in terms of how many enemies you have to face, how hard they hit you etc. At the same time, we see some comments that it’s a bit easy. Yet on the other hand we don’t want to mess it up and would like to hear the voice of the community first.

Here is some data and context.

According to our stats, the average win rate on Absolute difficulty is ~60% (significantly higher than Lethal difficulty that sits at 50%), which seems a bit higher than we expected.

At the same time such high win rate is explained by three facts:

1.   Absolute difficulty is locked for new users

2.   Only ~12% of daily play time is spent on Absolute difficulty.

3.   Only ~15% of weekly active players play at least 1 match on Absolute difficulty

This means that only a small portion of very hardcore and well-prepared players are playing the Absolute difficulty, and we must find a proper balance between wishes of the hardcore players and more casual players that simply want to have fun.

I will be completely honest; I think we are almost at our limit in terms of how we can make the game harder without making it unfair and not fun. We can’t significantly increase the number of enemies for performance and memory reasons. Greatly increasing enemy damage and hp will make it so players will die randomly and will make enemies bullet sponges, which will not be fun.

We do not want to implement a new difficulty, because that would split the matchmaking pool even more. We have to stick to the existing 6 difficulties.

The proper way of doing this would be implementing a set of gameplay modifiers (i.e. tight formation gameplay modifiers that we’ve tried to release earlier), combination of which would make each challenge unique. And I’m happy to announce that we are already working on the system, however this will take some time.”

For now, we can tweak some parameters and we would like to hear your opinion on specific items:

❔ Poll 1:

Would you like to see Dual Terminus enemies and more Terminus enemies in general on Absolute difficulty?

We can make it so there will be way more Terminus enemies on a level, potentially 2 at the same time. Plus we can lift restriction that prevents Terminus enemies from spawning on levels that have final bosses (i.e Hive Tyrant)

Vote here

❔ Poll 2:

Shall we slightly increase enemy health and damage on Absolute difficulty?

Some of the builds can break health thresholds and start one-shotting enemies. We are only talking about small health and damage tweaks that should not cause enemies to become bullet sponges.

Vote here

❔ Poll 3:

Would it be better to have more limited ammo refills on Absolute difficulty?

Vote here

❔ Poll 4:

Do you want even more aggressive enemies on Absolute difficulty?

Vote here

We will try to implement the adjustments as soon as we can.

Enemies are already bullet sponges without any changes.

Bolt weapons STILL massively underperform based on established 40k lore even after the buffs. No gaunt should be surviving a headshot from any kind of bolt weapon. Don't even get me started on plasma weapons.

I would happily take double or triple the amount of minoris enemies on if my guns actually performed the way the lore tells us they should.

Adding modifiers would be a fantastic way to ramp up the difficulty.
It’d be even better if we could select multiple modifiers before the mission kicks off.
That way, players could craft some wild, tough, and entertaining challenges — perfect for streamers looking to spice things up!
And please, don’t limit the number of modifiers we can choose. If there are, say, 10 available, let us pick all 10 if we want to go all out!
Huge respect for your amazing work! EMPEROR PROTECTS

Thanks for the transparent update and honest info.
I think a good way to increase difficulty without stressing too much the game would be to decrease enemy health by a good amount at all difficulties and increase only the number of majoris, extremis and terminus enemies on screen.
For example enemies could have the same health from the easiest to substantial and slightly increase from ruthless to absolute difficulty; damage will increase substantly from one difficulty to another.
This way the players will clear enemies faster and reduce the amount of stress given by enemy numbers. Only majoris+ enemies will be really dangerous and at the highest level playes will only focus on their dodge timins, positioning, parries, etc. and the power fantasy won't be impacted to much on higher difficulties

Please stop making the game harder because of a very small number of tryhards. This game is not a souls-like game, yet higher difficulties are basically dodge fests. The game has advertised itself as an horde action-shooter, not as a souls-like game, that is why we bought it, supported it. Even though the game is a shooter, there are no covers or cover mechanics and that forces us to face everything head on in a horde shooter game where even moderate enemies can go toe to toe with us thus killing all the fun of being a protagonist. No one is against challenge here but please stop pushing this. We do not even have health regain like we did in the first game, the game this one is supposed to be the sequel of. That game was also difficult but we could regain health back on executions.
I repeat, this game was not advertised as a souls-like game, we did not buy this game so that we can get forced to dodge around and parry around non-stop and even then die to rng of the spawns. And please do not bring dual Terminus unless you're prepared to improve ammo availability considerably.
PS: Looking forward to see stutters and fps drops getting fixed.

Would love if we could have the datavault track individual enemies killed, assists (dealing at least 1/3 of the enemy's health), and times killed/downed by stats. Kinda like DRG / RoR2 but adding the assists section so there isn't much of a need to worry about "kill stealing" behavior. I wanna see how many enemies I've killed! Especially with horde mode on the horizon. Could also have stats for each operation completed outside of the ordeal related sections relating to times completed on each difficulty.image_2025-02-27_111806584.pngimage_2025-02-27_111756430.pngimage_2025-02-27_111748881.pngimage_2025-02-27_111737536.png

Why can't we have daily or weekly challenges which are rotating for the cosmetics instead of stupid Events via Pros?

And I swear...if we can't choose the fraction we want to play against in the Horde mode I'll start throwing hands. Chaos is already annoying in PvE. Slaughtering Tyranids is where the fun begins. And you guys better give us more than just one Map for the start.

So far, this game is shaping up to be positively beautiful. I only have on small gripe, and that's the DLC armors need more care. Not the champion packs but the actual chapter armor packs we get. Alot of these armors lack the bits and bobs that the ultramarine sets have. Raven Guard especially lack any of the pouches, rope, or tactical gear like you would expect Raven Guard to have. I don't know if it would be worth revamping the armor or just adding another chest piece but with extra pouch work or something, but I do think this issue needs attention in some way. Because as a raven guard fan I can't enjoy wearing the chest piece because they ultramarine sets have all the extra gear and what not that pulls the look together, especially for classes like vanguard.

Absolute difficulty is locked behind a Lethal completion for a reason. It was added for those wanting an extra challenge, they are seeing those that wanted more challenge are not having much of a challenge and want to fix that. That’s all they are doing 😂. Personally, I still find Lethal harder than Absolute, and I’d rather that not be the case. So I’m glad they are looking to making Absolute harder. And I know quite of people who are also glad that Absolute will be getting harder. The harder the difficulty, the more tryhard you have to play, nobody is forcing you to play like that, unless you choose to.

Yep for bolter.

Simple maths (dps, or even damage per ammo capacity) show that they underperform, even if you say that they hit 100% of the time with headshots, it's ridiculous.

Their dps isnt even beter than bursty, safer weapons.

Playing bolter and other weapons is night and day. How many 6% buff will we need for them to have some sort of balance?

You are completly correct. ABSOLUTE difficulty was meant for us - sweaty tryhards, as we got called many times before. I try so hard that when game loads I perform dodges and rolls on floor of my basement to warm up.

Noobs can play any other difficulty and now because they can trade armory data and they also can obtain any data they want or need by playing lower diffs, their arguments about ABSOLUTE diff being too hard should just be carried by servitor straight to trash bin. Let us have one goddamn difficulty level that is actually difficult, stay on your "ruthless" and everyone will be happy.

I feel like the reason veteran players don't play absolute difficulty much is because there really isn't much of a point in it for us, except those who enjoy regularly difficult gameplay. Most veterans that play it already have their classes and weapons maxed in order to complete it, so the hefty experience and requisition goes to waste 98% of the time, as well as the single armory data that most of us already have sitting at max (although maybe rewarding two relic data would appeal to some?). If there was more incentive to play Absolute, I feel like veterans would play it more.

For Absolute difficulty maybe something similar to mythic plus affixes from WoW. Essentially each week enemies could have a different unique buff that adds damage buff, health buff, or any of the different effects they're debating on adding. But it rotates and adds unique combinations that could add another layer of difficulty.

Armory data trading, the Tyrannic War Veteran breastplate, max weapon XP mastery points, the bolters' base damage buff (feel free to buff it much more), and emotes (For the Emperor!) were fantastic additions—thank you!

In future updates, it would be great to finally see the Ultramarines Sergeant pauldron decal added:Sergeant.jpg
