Proposition how to balance Grenade Launcher (tactical)

I have around 200 hours on Tactical, spending a lot of time using the grenade launcher. Yes, it was broken—overpowered and cheesy. But for the last 150 hours, I played other classes, so I’m not a Tactical fanboy. In fact, I hated seeing GL Tacticals on my team since they often ruined the match’s balance.

That said, reducing the Emperor’s Vengeance perk to return only one nade feels too weak. The real issue with the GL is its ability to spam grenades, instantly killing anything—including major enemies like Liktors. Before patch 6.0, a Tactical could just spam nades the moment a Liktor became visible to kill it in 1 second, which was bad game design.

I propose reworking the GL to limit spam while maintaining its power. Adding an ammo reserve and slightly increasing the delay between shots would help.

Tactical should have 5-6 grenades before needing a long reload, making each shot count. Emperor’s Vengeance should return grenades to the reserve, not directly to the magazine.

This way, the GL remains a powerful tool for handling major threats but forces players to be mindful of their shots. I suggest Emperor’s Vengeance restores 25-40% of the Grenade Launcher ammo reserve. Reloading should take some time to prevent tactical spamming grenades in the middle of the battle.


P.S also remove friendly fire stagger from grenade launcher shots. This is disruptive to the team and unnecessary.

It needs 3 4-round mags, one on spawn and 2 in reserve. The perk should then simply do what it does for primary ammo which is give back up to one reserve mag. Including a reload is all that is really needed to balance the weapon. The standard bolter with no GL is also trash by comparison and needs a buff or it needs to each have a different special ammunition to use.

One other point: To reduce grenade spam, just let the grenades deal friendly fire to the tactical, like all other side grenades do. It's ridiculous to spam it right in front of your feet with no danger.


Beside this, in my opinion, the actual restrictions are okay. One grenade per kill is okay, the 30 sec. cooldown could be better, like 10 seconds.

🤔 Without the team stagger, grenade spam will only be rewarded. There must be other solutions.
