PvP Cross-Platform Limitations should be Input-Based

Upon reading the recent August Community Update, I have concerns regarding the decision to limit PvP modes to the pools they are currently:

  1. - Steam/Epic
  2. - PS5/Xbox

The Problem with this Platform-Based system is it is done for the purpose of "fairness and balancing", yet there is a problem with this method if we look at it solely for "fairness and balancing."

There will be some Steam/Epic users that play this game with a Controller, and Likewise some PS5/Xbox players will be using M+KB hooked up to their consoles.

If the balancing and fairness is in regards to input, then this doesn't solve that issue, and restricts both platforms from being able to play with more users utilizing their input-method.

I think the devs would do well to consider a system implementation in future to allow PvP full platform Cross-play but lock Input methods when entering PvP matches:

  1. - If a player begins matching in PvP through controller input command, then M+KB input stops working for the duration of the match and they're matched into a Controller Pool.
  2. - If a player begins matching in PvP through M+KB input command, then Controller input stops working for the duration of the match and they're matched into a M+KB Pool.

Or you know, just make it an option for people to toggle on/off on crossplay. Then console players who doesn't want to fight PC players can opt out of it if they want to.

This is true, Although the problem with this is most console players who disable Cross-play do so on the assumption that keeps M+KB at bay.

Some do it for hackers, but the former is the reason why the majority do it, however M+KB is still possible on consoles in recent generations.

So all this does is split up the matchmaking pool unnecessarily. In the long run, the playerbase would be less sporadic over time with an automatic system in place if the devs won't budge on the input fairness issue.

- Obviously if the devs do budge on it and just allow it to be a wild west with a toggle-off option that would be fine too.

I propose an alternative that might incentivize a change that keeps a similar stance, and therefore more plausible to see be implemented in the future, while not alienating friends across platforms from playing together in PvP.

This needs MORE attention before game launch.
Crossplay between all platforms should be provided so friends can play with eachother.

Developers needs to provide a toggle on/off switch for crossplay. Allow friends to play with each other regardless of platform. The switch also allows people who only want to PvP against people of same platform to ability to do so.

Its an obvious WIN / WIN solution...

I've seen a lot of demand for this within multiple communities so I'd wager they'll probably add it soon as it would be the smart thing to do, I have a few friends that are on pc and ill be on series X so it would be a shame to not be able to do pvp with them occasionally.

You're right! However,  their own logic doesn't make sense. As they are going for full Steam Deck support by the end of the year. Steam Deck, mostly functions as a console. When they add in the Deck players, are the Deck players going to be placed in console pools? Where they will have access to the objectively better gyro aim and keyboard and mouse controllers, console players will not have access to? Or are Deck players going to be forced to fight higher spec PC players as mostly controller players? Creating the exact PvP enviroment the devs are saying is unbalanced and is the reason we need to be seperated? Bedides, there are already controller players on PC anyways.

They need to just let everyone play together. Enable gyro aim for PS5 players, disable their aim assist. Enable K&M on both consoles. Allow input based matchmaking.  Allow fun to happen.  Friends can stay together, using their prefered aiming method.

Input based, party based, toggle option... idc how they do it, as long as the6 do it... all i know is right now i cant play with my brother and other friend both of which i convinced to buy the game... in the name of being "fair" meanwhile I'm using a ps5 controller on my pc... explain to me how is it fair for people with elite/edge controllers vs base controllers... or people with 4090 GPU vs 1080 GPU... or betting ping... it's never fair... but I like video game so who cares... but I only like video games to play with my friends....

They need to add a PVP spotlight showing your Marine, and if they add a top kill cam, that would be chef's kiss. If can make us show of our customization and make other players wonder were we get the armor, and look how to grind it. and please tune pvp classes some are insanely OPE, and parry mechanic for PVP.

I’m so sad.  I waited for this game for over a year.  I bought a PS5 just to play this game, and bought the ultra edition to play early, and the only thing I want to do is play PvP with all my friends, but they’re playing on PC and apparently crossplay isn’t allowed?  I was not aware of this before I spent $500 on a brand new console and the copy of the game and a controller etc just to play this game.  Why isn’t this allowed?  Seems like a lame reason (fairness).  Fair is letting people pick how they want to play.  All my friends are on pc and now I’m forced to not be able to play with any of them.  I don’t care if I get sniped more often by someone with a mouse.  If someone really cares about that they already have a toggle to turn off crossplay.  Devs please fix this issue, it’s ruining what would have otherwise been a perfect gaming experience!  I’m loving the game I’ve finished the campaign and all the operations missions and fully customized my character now I just want to sit back and play PvP with my friends for the next 20 years until space marine 3 comes out.

The competitive players that really want to play are being shut out. I was hoping gyro aim and keyboard and mouse support would be on PS5. Nope! I was hoping to play PvP with friends on PC. nope!

They screwed over their real audience in the long run.  it is unfortunate.

One simple problem you’re not understanding, people hack on PC and console players want nothing to do with it. And the devs know that…
