This has been bothering me for since I started playing 200+ hours ago: Tactical, Heavy, and Sniper all do dodge rolls on single button dodge other than back-stepping and that makes their combat when engaged in melee or swarmed feels... panicky even if you are not panicking because it evokes Dark Souls rolling around in a panic to avoid attacks. Why are our big bad primaris marines defaulting to rolling around on the ground rather than making agile sidesteps and quick forward lunges?

Give all classes the same damn dodge, heck it makes less sense for the heavy who is in Gravis armor to be rolling in the first place.

That is all. Should be simple too since the animations are already there.

How would you implement it because that dodge roll sideways is how I survive sometimes.  Like jumping out of melee range to a chaos marine fire circle or getting out of the way of a zoanthrope beam.  Like one button press for dodge and double tap and direction for side step?

You ever play a bulwark, vanguard, assault? Yeah that. You just double-tap and you still can roll. The sidestep is actually safer than rolling sideways due to significantly less recovery frames and tighter action time after perfect dodge.

I see.  I don't think I realized some classes have it some don't.

All can backstep but not all can side-hop/quickstep/sidestep
