I just started SM2 after a long break playing other games and discovered the new Research Center, where you can buy/research... some 3D modells? WTF?

What's the point? why did they wasted resources on this bs instead of making a new map or ANYTHING USEFULL for the game?

Just finding this in the game already made me quit. My motivation to try the new operation (which on its own is a disapointment that meanwhile only one operation came out) totally vanished seeing this non-sense of a waste of time and money named research center.

For unlocking stuff in Data section you can unlock rewards.

This is mechanic that was dramatically needed in this game, because group of players that have nothing to do grows every week. Giving them challenges, some of which is very difficult to accomplish make more people play.

whatz rewards? i only see 3d models i can watch in that center. that is not a reward. not even a cosmetic.

Yeah, a reward mechanics would be nice, not that i care much about it. but REWARDS, not this bs.

Overall, coming back after a quite a long time i am extremly disapointed in what they added. Some minor fixes and improvements that where overdue but almost no additional content.

Man you didn't even check what they added and you go to forum to make rant about it. Load game and look more closely in data center, there are rewards to be unlocked for unlocking everything in each of 4 sections there are.

Indeed, I mean we all agree it could have been done better but there are actual rewards not just models of the stuff in-game. Looking at it for a second then going to the forums to say how much you hate it to the point of this one thing that isn't even gameplay related making you not want to play is... so dramatic. Not to mention that new operation is quite enjoyable and this guy decided he would rather quit for basically no reason than experience the content added in his absence.

Oh well, RIP, he will not be missed.

There are four new cosmetics that can be obtained in the Datavault. Personally, I think the Datavault is great—it adds to the replayability, especially if you like to try to 100% everything. I understand if that’s not your thing, though.

You even told him there were rewards tied to it he went back again and still didn't see them.  I think that says a lot about what type of person the OP is.  I don't think anyone here would be able to help someone like that who doesn't even want to help themselves.

I kind of like the models and the bit of info attached to them.  I am not that familiar with the lore so it was nice to be able get some aspect of that. Like when in the research center area and library I saw all these floating monster babies and had no idea why they were there or what they do.  Then I got to read their description they are Cherubs and what they do.

As I have said in other topics about the research/ordeals, the lore alone snippets (alone) are a lazy addition because the internet exists. I can get all that info and more from a wiki. It should have had the lore and some combat data (like "best way to defeat this enemy" or "here are the weakspots of this enemy") or maybe have a training ground where you can spawn simulations of the enemies you have unlocked so you can practice. We have been asking for a training ground for as long as we have been asking for a horde mode and this would have been a great patch to add such a thing, even if you can only use it when solo (like the trials).

Regardless, the ones that are not data on enemy units should not cost 9 points.

TL;DR: The lore alone is a lazy addition and should not cost 9 points to unlock when I can get it for no effort online. While I disagree with OP on most things he said and think he is an overdramatic clown, I do agree it feels like they mostly wasted their time on this [when they could have made it so much more given how long it took to add.]

It is absolutely garbage... I have said it 1000x before... the resources required on it to do anything is absolutely stupid. It turned me off the game as well. If they made the dataslates purchasesable with left over XP points or something like that, I would have no issue with it. But as it is, it is utter garbage and shit and needs to go away.

you got some points, but what I like about the addition of the datavault is that it takes nothing from the game and can be easily expanded upon. It can only get better.

I kinda hope they ignore all the feedback on the datavault for now and focus resources elsewhere though. It is clear they are running on a skeleton crew given how long it is taking them to make any patches or even hotfixes for the game

Hello,

The Research Center allows you to unlock cosmetics by completing specific missions called Ordeals. Completing these missions will grant you a special currency to earn unique rewards. The Research Center isn't just a place to look at 3D models. We believe it's important to reward players with content for successfully completing precise objectives.

I hope this sheds a little more light on its usefulness to you.

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you to maintain your behavior in line with our rules of conduct, since your comment could have been made much more politely.

Great day!

I'm lazy so having it right there within the game as I am playing it is convenient and nice.  If I want further info then later sure I will look it up.  The lore unlocks are just there as you are working to unlock each section for the reward.  Think of something like the penance progression in darktide.  It would be like them adding in lore in-between the claimable rewards at various point totals.

The models are nicely done and I like looking over them.  I do like your suggestion of them adding in weakspots like they could point those out on the models which would be awesome.  It has helped me in that regard slightly. Examining the new biovore let me pinpoint exactly where its head is so in game when it is not bunkered down I can reliably headshot it knowing exactly where to shoot.  Kind of hard to get an exact view of it in-game.

I like the strategy they are using for the datavault.  It is there for people that want something to grind for and small trivial rewards for their efforts.  On the other hand if people don't want to grind for it or don't think it is worth it they are not missing out on anything at all that will impact their game.  No must have items or game breaking items.  It can be completely ignored entirely with zero negative effects by not completing the ordeals.

Now if they had special weapons or items like that locked behind completing those ordeals I would have a problem with that because it would all of a sudden turn the player base into the have's and have not's.

Oh for sure, the actual method of unlocking cosmetics is the right direction. Locking them behind specific challenges also means we get the exact situation PvP crowd is dealing with with the PvP ordeals causing people to play like adeptus retardes all over again.
