Patch 4.1 - To the Devs

I have not had a chance to play the game with the new patch yet, so I may eat these words.

That said:

Dear Dev Team,

I said some pretty harsh things about you guys, both on here, and elsewhere on the internet. The impression I got from the initial 4.0 release is that you were a bunch of a tone deaf jerks, who don't care about the actual meat of your player base. I discussed the Mass Effect multiplayer elsewhere on here, so I'll use that example again to illustrate some why (I at least) had that reaction. ME3 was an insane experience, for those of us that remember it. The developers were calling their players names, disparaging them, and even game journalists went on to call gamers "entitled pricks" for being so vocal about their disappointment in the overall experience that the last installment in that trilogy provided. The storyline broke down into all of your actions leading to the end, being simplified to "blue or red," and even though the multiplayer was a lot of fun, it was chocked full of loot boxes and other scummy tactics that the developers refused to back down on, and instead doubled down over (they actually quadrupled down on them, if you count the ME: Andromeda debacle).

It was such a big deal, that when they released the anniversary edition of the trilogy, they completely omitted the multiplayer, lying and claiming "it would have been too big of a project." When, the truth, is that they just weren't willing to invest the effort into a potential controversy when they inevitably attempted to gouge players, again, while refusing to provide them with any of the features they begged for (customization, larger maps, better teamwork mechanics, etc).

With all that considered, I would like to say, tentatively, that I genuinely appreciate the public response from the game's (human) director (as we all know the game's AI director is an insane sadist). It looks like the (p4.1) changes probably place the game where I think you guys were envisioning it when you developed p4.0.

Thank you, for listening to your audience, and thank you guys for working so hard and so quickly to try to turn the situation around.

FWIW; I am genuinely sorry I jumped to conclusions and was so critical in my initial reactions.

Please remember, in the future, that your core audience is a bunch of decent, hard working people, who are probably already on blood pressure meds (your US audience for sure), and we don't need any additional vectors for stress and strain; but that is not the same as saying we don't want a challenge, we just want an accessible one. Please remember, that even the most critical of us, were probably reacting to an expected push back from you, as a development team, because that's what we're used to, as consumers. We certainly got castigated by the try-hards  and elitists in your audience; which are, I feel compelled to reiterate, a vocal and noxious minority. I would wager than an easy 90% of your player base, is made up of people who just want to step out of their role as an underpaid, overworked, basic-ass human in real life, and inhabit the boots of a space Rambo-type-character that goes out and fights the good fight for the betterment of whatever fantasy society they are fighting for. In this specific case, "For the Emperor, and for the Imperium of Man!" - "For Russ, and the All-father!"

Respectfully,

Me

PvP lag issues are even worse than before.

That's disheartening.

Yeah, I don't care about balancing at this point. I cannot even get an idea what might be off with balancing... everything is so heavily influenced by lag, it's just pure luck to hit anything anyway. I admit, I only had 3 PvP games this evening... but they were all unplayable. I'm glad to be on vacation next week.. but I cannot tell that I am confident that the game will perform better when I am back.

Well, I am nowhere near as excited as I was this morning, now.

I get where you're coming from, but that's a lose-lose situation. If the game is rebalanced to where it's a lot of fun again, but you can't play it because of lag... that sucks. If it's lag free but so busted up in terms of balancing that it's not fun, well, that suck too!

6 days now.. 6 days of constant disconnects, server issues and loading into nothing but a black screen that doesn't change, no matter what game mode I try....

Its 2024, I am unable to play a game I paid £90 for and I'm not running round the Battle Barge on my own.. its not that fun! Will you please sort out the issue many of us have of not being able to play .. what so ever!! I've not been able to connect since 4.0 .. I didn't even get to try lethal or the new game mode that everyone was moaning at.. still not played the new Mission... this really isn't on, I see so many people complaining about the crashes and losing out on XP and weapon data due to crashes, some of us cant even get on at all.
Could some one out there please find a solution and sort this out for all those that cant even get on to play ?? ..
Thanks ... lots of Marines who Can't deploy

Well, I hate to say it, but, balancing still feels out of whack as well. Zoanthrope pairs are still swapping shields just as quickly and they feel even tankier now for some reason. Dodging feels much better at least! Bolter buffs are okay, but, with the enemies being as spongy as they are it doesn't amount to much at this point. It's definitely a step in the right direction, but, some things still feel very broken.

I know they also said that armor wasn't actually touched in Substantial, but, it really feels like my armor melts away just as fast, if not faster, in Substantial as it does in Ruthless/Lethal. I feel that has to be a bug.

I also will at least say that I've had fewer crashes thankfully, but, I'm dealing with some new graphical glitches: For some reason the textures for the floor will just fail to load and everything just looks like a blurry mess until I swap graphics settings and then change them back. After that the floors load up fine.

0 issues with the game since 4.1 launched. Fewer server issues, but it managed to appear later in the night.

The game is on the right path.

^ I jumped on at the end of the night, last night, and ran 2 substantial and 2 ruthless missions; my impression was that they are on the right track to where they wanted to be initially. I did not find the game "easy," but running substantial missions @ lv 25 with relic weapons resulted in a nice experience, and moving into ruthless provided an almost perfect level of tension. It was a pretty good feeling to zone in on my second run, with both of the other players down, and be able to turn the tide, and eventually carry us to victory.

I did not experience any server issues, but I do not really like the frequency of zoanthropes, nor the hitching during parries, which resulted in a several bad experiences when dealing with large mobs of enemies. My main complaint, honestly, is that Assault still needs some love. I think they could really fix most of how it feels if they just gave it the Vanguard skill that allows health recovery on execution. I feel like that skill should be available to the Bulwark as well, if maybe at 5% instead of 10%, given the Bulwark now feels very tough/resilient again.

I will say that while the roll/dodge feels much more agreeable now, I still do not like the carnifex's attack radius during its charges, nor the weird timings on its melee. Not deal breaking, but I do feel like some of the enemies could be tuned a little better.

The game feels better, I will say.  It is a challenge now but not insurmountable.  I enjoyed playing last night and even did 3 lethal missions.  4.1 is a step in the right direction, but only a step.  Bolt weapons are still not as good as they should be. the 'thropes are still jerks that swap shield too fast.  The enemies are still VERY bullet spongy, 10 shots from a melta to take down a warrior is riduckulous.  Overall, a nice step but still..

Did you do the lethal missions with pugs? I want to try them over the weekend, but jesus, after what I experienced with 4.0, I'm not really looking for that kind of smoke in my life.

Regarding your initial post. I think it's well said. You mentioned Mass effect, and i got real sad (that series is dead now because of that, they tried but never really recovered). Your reasoning matched mine, i expected it, so i reacted very negatively. I did not believe they would fix it.

Since this latest patch I have been experiencing instability with my game and my PC. I truly love the game and would like to keep playing. I have spent about a week since the patch trouble shooting drivers and hardware to no avail leading me to conclude it's something in the games code. I have verified the files multiple times and have confirmed everything that is supposed to be there is there. I have also verified that none of my other games act in a similar manner. As for what exactly happens is my game will crash after about 30 minutes with a windows popping up stating that my graphics are unsupported and out of date (I'm running an RTX 4050 and the drivers are up to date). My thought is that somehow the game must be forcing itself and my system to switch from the dedicated graphics to the on board graphics.

I have exact same issue.
Last 2 days the game has been very unstable for me - constant freezes and slow-downs, sometimes to a full stop for several seconds while the sound continues. Then it catches up and runs normally. This is both for PvE and PvP.
I have recommended PC specs but have noticed this after each patch since launch; But this time is the worst for sure, a 3rd person shooter with lag is just unplayable.
