Hi everyone!
Here is Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand's latest update! Make sure you read the patch notes here:
PERFORMANCE
Added an experimental option to fix the stutters that players with uncapped FPS suffered when playing with high frequency monitors (requires more powerful PCs and changes to settings.json file).
This allows you to manually set the rate at which all game systems are updated (including camera movement, which was the main culprit for the stuttery feeling encountered at high framerate).
How to enable the fix:
- Download this file
- Replace your settings file (located here: (C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Atlas Fallen) with the pre-made one you just downloaded, it will activate the fix, but it will reset all the rest of your options to defaults.
- You can set manually the value by modifying the value "fixed_stepper_frame_rate" by using any text editor. The base value is set at 90, if you're encountering stutters, especially on mid-range machines, you can lower this value to 60. Please refer to the "Formatting tips" part for details.
Formatting tips (to go further):
- Make sure to respect the formatting of the json file (spaces, tabulations ...etc.).
- If you add the line in the middle of the text block, don't forget the comma at the end of it. It will not work without it.
- If the line that you add is the last line, it doesn't need a comma at the end.
Warnings & Guidelines:
- The higher you set the value, the more resource intensive the game will become, which can lead to potential slowdowns.
- We advise to try this experimental fix only if your system specs are vastly above the recommended specs for the game.
- If you want to try the fix, we advise to first set the setting's value to a framerate that your machine can hit most of the time in game (for example, if your machine can play the game at an average of 100 fps, even in intensive situations, then you can start with the setting's value to 100).
- If the game doesn't behave well with a high value, reducing it should help performance (for example, if a value of 100 leads to slowdowns, you can try 90 or 80, and adjust based on your tests' results).
- On the contrary, if the game runs well with the value that you set, then you can try to progressively crank up the value, to reach the smoothest experience possible.
- If you want to go back to the default behavior of the game, simply put the value to 60 (default), or delete the line from the settings file
