Champion pack customization?

Having looked closely at the Ultramarines Champion Pack, it seems that the champion packs will work like the champion skins in SM1, with no customization available for the skin itself (E.g. different pauldrons, helmets, etc.). Will the champion packs really be working like this? I pray that it doesn't, as not being able to mix and match parts with the pack parts ruins the great potential for customization in the game.

Regarding the packs being class locked, I personally do not mind. I understand that even the deathwatch pauldron has some issues with looks between classes along with the DLC helmets nonetheless a full pack of class-specific cosmetics.

If I could get clarification on Champion Pack customization that'd be great!

It is exactly as you fear im afraid. They are not customizable at all. Not a single piece to my understanding. Its the biggest mistake I've seen so far for what I consider a nearly perfect game. I am going to be extremely vocal about it on all their medias and I encourage everyone else to be as well. The entire game advertises and understands how important customization is. Making the supposedly coolest cosmetics uncustomizable feels like they're going against the entire point of the games monetization being customization.

As much as I would want to be able to costumize the Champion sets, as I personally see them as a "Deluxe" set of armours to collect outside of other sources, I would assume that Games Workshop is part of this decision. GW can be quite strict with the IP and probably want to keep the chapter champions just as that, Chapter champions. Not something people could alter outside of the packs "original" chapter.
This is my guess as to why it is as it is.

It could be, and if that's the case I'd hope they'd clarify this in the future. Im just worried they'll use the champion skins as a method of selling the iconic favorite looks for their chapters which sucks if we cant use it for our customizations. Like I desperately want my dark angel winged helmet. But if that's given to the champion pack only, then they're limiting the best cosmetics to the non customizable skins which is just a massive bummer and as the other post said, it's going to grind a lot of peoples gears (including mine).

I think putting too much emphasis on "champion skins" is an L. Atleast give us pieces of those armours as seperate cosmetics if so.

I just dont think locking the coolest cosmetics to full armour skins is a good idea in a game that heavily incentivizes and encourages customization.

Even though I know GW loves keeping a death grip on their IP, I'm not sure why they would limit customization at all. Kitbashing for real models and homebrew chapters have always been a centerpoint for 40K, and many homebrew chapters have even been adapted into canon. If GW was that scared I imagine they wouldn't allow chapter-specific parts to be interchangeable, however that's untrue as there are multiple armor pieces that can be mixed across all classes (Ultramarine, black templar and brazen consul helmets), nonetheless custom color schemes.

Former Fatshark community manager Aqshy offers a small insight into coordinating with Games Workshop for either Vermintide 1+2 or Darktide:

"I can only speak to my end, but we [Fatshark] have bi-weekly check-ins with them [Games Workshop] to discuss campaigns, what's in the pipeline, how things are going, etc. Most materials go through them for approval, especially on how the IP is used and presented.

Production side also has their own approval process for game assets, design, and other areas, especially on how the world is presented to players." [posted January 19, 2023]

If GW does the bi-weekly check-ins for Saber Interactive like the company does for Fatshark, then I suppose the approval process takes too much time to offer more customization for the Ultramarines Champion Pack. Also note that Space Marine 2 was supposed to have a public beta test that was then cancelled for "... optimization, polish and fixing remaining issues ahead of launch on September 9. " Whether or not the game devs were under crunch time I cannot say, but there is a feeling that likely occurred.

I agree that champion sets need to be fully customizable with whatever class they are set to. this will greatly help the power fantasy and longevity of customization. Being able to take only a few pieces out of them further helps the kitbashing way of life warhammer fans have been doing since the 80s.

If lore was a problem for this just consider there are Skittle marines running around in operations.
