How are you supposed to dodge them?
do you have to dodge at the sides? and at what time do you need to jump?

You can dodge into them when they reach your position or a little before
Try it out an you will learn the timing pretty fast
You can also try dodging away from them or to the side but it is harder to time and visualize that way so its best to just jump into the waves
