Un-neuter the Assault class' ability in Operations

The Assault class ability is overly-nerfed relative to Campaign and Eternal War in Operations. You can barely travel vertically as an example, and due to the lack of mobility and the long recharge, you're essentially wielding two weaker frag grenades with a very long cooldown. You don't feel anything like an Assault Marine so much as you feel like a frog filled with mild explosives that can only hop once every minute, or twice every two minutes. The Vanguard can travel straight up or down at about the same range an Assault can hop, provided an enemy is available, and their hook takes far less time to recharge. Assault is redundant as a mobile priority hunter because Vanguard is far more mobile, IE, is a better Assault than Assault. You can't even jump to say, a bridge 12 feet above you as an Assault, because the Jump Pack can't... jump that high.


I'm not saying the Assault is a bad class, or in any way in need of balancing, I'm just saying that the Jump Pack feels bad in Operations.


Please, un-nerf the Assault's Jump Pack in Operations!

I also agree with the fact the jump pack needs a rework.  It just needs to jump higher and further so we have more mobility than the vanguard.  I would also personally like to see the Bulwark and Assault (The only two classes stripped of a primary) get the full melee weapon list.  Give the bulwark the thunder hammer and the assault the power sword.  As melee focused classes let us at least have the full choice of how we play.

Agreed the jump pack in campaign feels great but in operations it feels like a worse vanguard. Either the CD needs to be much much shorter or it needs to just do more.

I have no issues with the cooldown being 30 seconds by default. Ground pound is immensely powerful, but jump pack dash should not consume a charge. My personal idea was to roll the jump pack dash into the baseline assault dodge and change some of the perks.


Between this and putting in the work to implement full verticality with the jump pack, assault is going to feel so much better. In my view, this is very much worth the time and resources to try to fix whatever technical challenges made implementing jump pack verticality difficult.

I agree, I really wanted to enjoy this class but after playing the Campaign & PvP. Assault in Operations just feels terrible, In my opinion it is the weakest class. I’ve been able to do Ruthless efficiently on Tactical, Sniper, Vanguard & Bulwark but Assault lacks in both ability department and sustain.

I agree. Not even an Assault player but it came as a shock to my buddy who loved Assault in PVP and the jet pack in campaign. No reason for it to be nerfed like it is in Operations.

I agree completely! You cant even jump pack off of an edge due to an invisible wall, it feels more like a forward dash pack than a jump pack!

Agreed! Compared to the campaign jetpack sections Assault feels laughably useless.

I found these points to be the ones hampering enjoyment the most:

  • Only 2 charges which are also consumed with the dash. It either needs more chargers or to have the dash not consume them, or separate chargers for the dash.
  • COOLDOWN: For only 2 charges the cooldown feels like an eternity. I haven't timed it but between the campaigns almost instant CD and PvPs short CD the current one in Operations is waaaaay too long.
  • Limited jump height
  • Limited jump distance
  • Lack of stun on larger enemies when ground smashing, leading to you immediately getting hit by melee attacks upon landing. Basically big enemies should also get knocked back by it or more.
  • More weapon options. Why does the Vanguard, another melee class get primary and secondary? In general all classes should have a primary, but something like carbines only, while the rifles are for tactical etc. This would give more utility in fights and also save our hardware as all pistols are semi-auto, leading to hundreds of left-clicks throughout a mission.
    Alternatively, a secondary carbine would be appreciated.

Atm, I've stopped playing assault and play heavy. This class feels very well in its intended ranged combat focus and doesn't suffer.

I concur, the only thing that seems to be unanimous among every single video I've seen is people saying assault is the weakest class. The sacrifice of a primary weapon requires a large benefit to make it worth which the assault simply doesn't have right now.

I fully agree. Going from the jump pack in PvP and the campaign just to go back to how it is in PvE again feels absolutely awful. Assault right now feels quite a bit weaker compared to other classes too, and I seriously hope the devs end up buffing the class instead of nerfing the other ones that feel a lot more fun to play at the moment.

100% agree, I feel like I'm playing a less useful tactical marine due to the long cooldown, especially after putting so many hours into assault in SM1 where it replaces the evasive roll and is a mobility tool rather than a special power

I very much agree to this! :) It feels far too long of a CD to make it appealing and I cannot travel vertically with it. Best I can do is occassionally do a big slam or skip forward a tiny bit once in a while

I second this and the CD is also atrocious. My entire enthusiasm about this class died when I am just a less utility-like bulwark. Not to mention how strong chainsawsword is compared to the thunder hammer. I'd rather have the hammer completely bonkers and remove the secondary arms.
