The recent patch is a positive step toward enhancing the block style of melee weapons. However, it still seems to lack the effectiveness of perfect parries and the ability to open up gun strikes/stagger. 


Since Saber have announced improvements to the weapon perks, I suggest making the Balanced Parry window a base for all weapons , while incorporating the variations and features of fencing, and block into the perk trees.
This change would allow players to start with the desired stats of the weapon and customize the weapon to match your preferred style. 
Imagine the new block mechanics as a node on one of the paths in the perk tree. Additionally, I suggest introducing a melee variant of gunstrike that utilizes the new blocking AOE and amour regen. For example, a perk tree could have:


Option A: After a perfect parry/Block, perform a melee attack instead of a gunstrike causing AOE stagger. A later perk could feature the armour recovery. 


Option B: Have nodes focusing on gunstrikes, enhancing them in other ways


This approach could provide a variety of options to experiment with different styles.
I would also suggest incorporating parry window timing improvement's into the perk tree to allow people to lean toward fencing style for example.

I think if blocking could stagger enemies like parry without a gunstrike it would be a positive step in right direction.
