issue
players who want to play melee have no way to use counters, as these can only be performed with a gun.
solution
- make a melee counter that player can use instead of a gunstrike. make player perform them by landing a combo finisher (for example chainsword's backfist bash) on a target that have a counter mark.
- most importantly, make the melee counter safe unlike the gunstrike, or else melee players will do them on accident and get hit, making combat worse for melee players instead of better. what'll make it not a straight upgrade to gunstrike is the fact that you cannot do it from anywhere or instantly.
- for animation, you can just have said combo finisher as a counter itself, or make a dedicated, unarmed strike animation, so it can work with any melee weapon held in hand during the animation.
