For starters, I applaud the customization options implemented in the game. While these options may seem amazing and flawless to the average WH40k enthusiast, seasoned WH40k veterans might find certain aspects downright baffling. Allow me to elaborate.
Having the option to play as a Deathwatch veteran within any chapter is undeniably cool (with the left pauldron and left arm in silver) or even as a pure Deathwatch character. However, the inability to include chapter markings on the right pauldron is baffling. For some inexplicable reason, only a few chapter icons can be applied to the right pauldron. In Deathwatch, this is practically a necessity—one pauldron in Deathwatch style, and the other bearing the markings of the parent chapter (or obscured in the case of a "black shield").
What’s even stranger is that the list of chapter symbols allowed on the right pauldron (loyalist spacemarines) includes symbols of the original traitor legions (mostly pre-Heresy era). Even in the lore-rich WH40k universe, this is a significant no-no. To make things even more ironic, those same traitor legion symbols cannot be used when customizing Chaos Space Marines—an odd inconsistency.
The armor customization options, while superbly crafted, are overwhelmingly Ultramarine-centric (with very few exceptions). Applying these designs to any chapter not descended from the Ultramarines, or perhaps a select few others, raises eyebrows—if not outright objections. For example, Roman-style helmet crests on Space Wolves or Black Templars? Really?
I sincerely hope these issues will be addressed or fixed in upcoming DLCs.
