Mod Support - A Message from the Game Director

Hello, Space Marines

We’ve seen incredible community engagement since launch, and we’ve noticed that some players have started to create and share mods for Space Marine 2. We wanted to make a game that was moddable from the start (this is why our game pack files are not encrypted, for example). It's always a pleasure for me, as a developer, to see what our community can create. Mods are great, and they will no doubt contribute to this game's longevity.

However, we as developers must also ensure game stability and continuously work towards a smoother experience for all players. Our data shows that a non-negligible amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods, and that instability impacts even those users who don’t have mods installed. We have also received user reports that their save files were corrupted after playing alongside players with mods.

This is why, starting with our next big update in December, mods will be prohibited from public online sessions. That means that you will no longer be able to enter a public game if you have mods installed.

However, we know that mods are a source of fun and creativity, and they will still be allowed in private Operations lobbies. We will continue to provide all necessary server infrastructure so you can play online with your friends with mods. Once we add custom Eternal War lobbies, mods will work for them as well.

We will also be providing an easy entry point to our backend for games with mods installed, so modders won’t have to spend time hacking the game executable after each patch. If we somehow break this pipeline for mods by accident in the future, we’ll fix it. In addition to that, we will be releasing some of our tools to modders so they can develop mods with greater ease.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The Emperor protects.

Add a FOV slider and mod usage will drop by a significant percentage.

The support of developers to modding groups is invaluable, Saber is quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite developers and those I will fully trust in the future, by the way, I already voted for Space Marine 2 for the Game Awards.

Oh look...another post purely dedicated to PVE and still no mention of PVP. Color me shocked.

Its not purely PVE its covering mods across all multiplayer modes.

the only mod i have is the FOV adjustment from St1cky. I play solo in public, not too many friends play this game consistently to warrant private games. If you don't add a FOV slider to base game then I think a lot of players who are like me will be done with this game.

Good change. It was crazy to me that the mods were allowed to be played in public lobbies, I think it's better this way. And better mod tools for those who like mods is an amazing change.

Would be great if you could look at popular mods and see if the features could be implemented into the base game. I think the armoury unlocking mods have proven that it doesn't break operation game balance to allow for greater weapon variety between classes, and more player freedom with loadouts is a great way to increase player retention.

I know this won't be a priority but would it be possible to add a modded matchmaking system? I know a lot of users only use one or two mods so if there was a system like with other games where active mods are registered by the game you could have a UI where you can search for other people using the same mods as you, or see active sessions with different mods and have names displayed so you can see what others are using, go download them and join.
Without a system like this the modding community will be stuck with purely LFG discords, which will make the modding community shrink.

This is very good
but we need you to fix the FOV
please look at the mods that are already doing this and give us a slider or a drop down to use the proven presets , look at the mod by St1cky, nothing breaks, the game plays the same but you can see it instead of just your marines butt

99% of mods being used are for FOV
fix that and you can even encrypt the pack files or do anything else necessary to keep cheats out of MP (like put them on their own server based on mods , dont care)
play the game on an ultra wide or a 4k screen thats 60cm from your face , then you will see just how uncomfortable your default FOV's are

Do you not know how to read? “However, we know that mods are a source of fun and creativity, and they will still be allowed in private Operations lobbies.”
