Saber's stance regarding prestige perks is troubling.

With the community update today, it's clear Saber has a fundamental misunderstanding of how to make a satisfying prestige system. Their reasoning is that they don't want to make game breaking perks that people feel obligated to grind for. I understand that. They "want them as minor rewards for those who choose to pursue them".  The problem is, the rewards are so minor (miniscule is a more appropriate word for most of them) that the overwhelming consensus from the community is that they are too weak and not worth the effort, indicating that not many people will choose to pursue them. Since the perks were released, the community has given clear feedback to Saber regarding how the magnitude of how underwhelming the prestige perks are would NOT be creating any desire to replay the game more.
Their response to this feedback, coupled with the fact that they are only changing Heavy perks,  is indicitive of Saber's inability to see nuance between two extremes. Saber is acting like there's no space between "game changing" perks that are "must haves" and create "forced grind" , and how unrewarding they are right now. We don't need game changing perks, but they do need to be good enough to bother engaging with the prestige system in the first place, and they are simply not right now.

My issue with the Prestige Perks is that they're hilariously unbalanced in strength. I consider most of them to be useless, but some are absolutely must-haves (like uninterruptible Gun Strikes or extra ammo).
When Prestige Perks were originally discussed, I thought they would be an unlockable fourth row, not... this.

They are walking a dangerous road. Community feedback was loud and unanimous. Ignoring/ dismissing that ....

this.

And also, the fact that weapon xp STILL bugs out and gets stuck between tiers is BAFFLING! Like, why tf would I trust your system and go through the trouble of leveling-up from 0 again when randomly I could stop gaining xp?

You guys will eat me for this but I actually like the idea of going back to lvl 1.

Why I like this idea?

1) Because I'm maks lvl from hundreds of hours.

2) Because I will be able to play lower difficulties with my underleveled Battlebrothers without feeling of boredom.

3) Because the more grind the better for me as I love this game, play it a lot, and Devs deliver content is slowmotion 0.1 speed it should be delivered. It will keep me engaged.

4) Because I love challenge and can't wait to hit ABSOLUTE on my lvl 1 marine along with my battle tested brothers - also lvl 1 (this is the best part for me).

I know many of you may see this mechanic as low ball recycle from Devs who don't listen to you, but from Devs point of view it's better. Why? Because at the same cost of work, time and effort from their side they get better result in keeping players sinking more hours to the game.

If you have to level all the way up to 25 from 1 you will play longer than if your level stays at 25.

At least most of people who will be willing to grind - and at which this mechanic is pointed - will.

I love the idea of being rewarded cosmetic items even though I think they should add titles like in Helldivers 2. I am starting to have really too many cosmetic items that I want to show to the world but can't show them all at once.

While I see buying perks again as a waste if I'm just going to reset again for another prestige level, I also try and see the positive and I see an opportunity here. I like a challenge, so can I get every class to lvl 25 without any perks? What's the hardest difficulty I can do it on? I wont be buying perks again until I'm on the last prestige level and there's no more resets coming. I'll find my own way to make it more interesting.

Just give players the ability to turn off perks. Boom, there you go. Now you hardcore players can effectively reset yourselves down to level 1 but everyone else doesn;t have to be effected.

Re-leveling once is fine but doing 4 times? All I can say is this supposed exp bonus from prestige better make it so it takes 10 missions to max a class tops even if you only play substantial for the first few levels. By the fourth time it will need to be like 5 otherwise I am not doing it for SIX classes (that is the real problem I have with it. I don't mind leveling one class 4 more times but six classes 4 times is 567 levels. With each missions taking an average of 20-30min that will easily double my time played and I for one do not look forward to that).

I said it in the test chat and I'll keep saying it: Prestige perks should be game-changers in order for me to want to re-level. That DOES NOT mean they should be inherently OP, that means they should literally change how a class is played thus warranting a re-level to effectively re-learn the new way the class works.

Seeing how perks aren't game changing people won't have to feel forced in partaking in this upcoming feature if they don't feel like re-leveling.

Personally I play SM2 because I think it's fun. Regardless if I play as a low level or high level.
So I will partake in this system and have as much fun as I did before.
And once I'm "done" I'll be able to perform ever so slightly better than I did pre-perks.
It's a win/win in my book.

This is the best way they could've done it imo.
Those who wants to can do it and those who don't want to won't have to feel like they're really missing out on anything spectacular.

except for some of the must-have cosmetics (i.e. deathwatch bulwark shield, drool) tied to the final prestige tiers...

That is true, I forget that there are cosmetics tied to this.
One can tell that I don't really care for those, even if it's nice to have them.

My stance on the cosmetics isn't really much different from the ones tied to completing operations on X difficulty.
It's a choice people have to make whether or not they find it worth the time and effort in getting them.
It's not required or effecting the gameplay if you have or don't have cosmetics.

Wanting cosmetics but not wanting to partake in what is required to unlock them is not the same as the system being bad.

I completely agree, I’m really looking forward to prestige. For me it will add a new dynamic to the game without everyone running the same builds over and over. I exclusively play absolute and I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m glad the weapons are are not resetting though. Kudos to you for stating your  opinion. There are many others the are excited for prestige and many others who don’t really care. The most vocal are always going to be the ones against in something like this, but the most vocal does not necessarily reflect the whole player base.

To me it seems that their stance regarding a lot of things is troubling, especially towards difficulty and the way they deliver additional content.

I always wondered why they don't just include a talent reset button so that you can play with 0 talents, or just a few, or whatever so you have that challenge... like in darktide. Although the way the talent trees are implemented in SM2 is just like originally in DT, which was extremely limiting (hence the full rework in darktide's patch 13 way back, which made builds so much more diversified), but I digress.

Like, what are you going to do after you're done challenging yourself at level 1 absolute and actually lock in your build again? Seems like having a reset flexibility should just be built in by now. If that's the thing that is most exciting for prestige then it probably should just be a standard feature in whether you prestige or not. Just thoughts.

I have to be honest, I was on team “NO PERK RESET” but over the last few days thinking about it - and seeing this post - I’m actually starting to really like the idea. Since the guns aren’t getting reset (if I heard correctly) it now sounds like in order to play harder difficulties it will literally be up to skill. no meta builds, just what gun are you best with and good luck.

I truthfully think this will actually work better than people think. and in response to the “no perks till the final prestige”… game on brother 🤝. i like this idea!

I'll call out perk reset for what it is. LAZY. It's lazy game design. plain and simple. A lazy attempt to maintain the player base through a new grind. I looked up the Astartes Mod. What a small team of hobbyists have delivered in the same time frame as the official devs proves my point. Sabre can and should do better.

Is a prestige system a repetitive grind? Yes.
But there are people who likes it due to how it let's people start over.

In the end, it's a players choice whether or not they want to use such a feature.
I've played several games through out my years with such prestige systems that resets a class and/or weapon.
Some I did others I didn't, it's a choice.

Not everyone enjoys it and that's fine, just don't do it.

Yes this.  Exactly.  Reading lot of the comments from people maybe they have never played a game that had a prestige system before so not familiar with how they work.
