Now I can say that from position who did almost all of them except 2 (death launch is at 4 and shrapnel at 1 but I'm not sure I have power to do those; the rest were pretty exhausting) that ordeals for eternal war is pure cancer.ordeals.png

Some are of course a much worse offenders than other but starting from second row it is just awful. But those which require other people to do anything specific or be in a specific place is just a bad design (I had worse comparison in my mind) and there is no way around it.

A will be for advice.

R will be for my take how to make it less cancer (remake).

My list of favorites got some updates after this journey.

Interesting enough that most of those ordeals are easier to do in annihilation mode (I tried all 3 but annihilation tends to get better results in matter of ordeal completion).

All ordeals were done in public queue without any grouping or help.

- Fortune reversed - Kill tactical enemies while you are marked by their Auspex Scan.

A: Apparently not as bad as I thought. Still bad though. At least doable on Heavy and Assault.

R: Kill tactical while their auspex is active.

- Anti-Aircraft - Kill Assaults enemies whille they are in the air.

A: First one to do. Very easy: just shoot the damn mofo with hammer before he kills you. Better stick to the group. Will finish that in no time.

R: All good, no need to change it.

Tombstone - Kill Bulwark enemies while they are near their Banner.

A: Assault is the only option. And then you just wait for the opportunity to pop and hopefully you kill bulwark first. Another option is sniper with melta charge (but assault is more reliable IMO).

R: Kill any enemy while they are affected by banner.

Seek and Destroy - Kill Sniper enemies while they are camouflaged.

A: Just wait and try your best. Assault works good for that. Heavy with melta. Tactical with scan also can help. Otherwise you just rely on a chance and hopefully stars will align for you.

R: Kill sniper while they are camouflaged or 2 seconds after they leave camouflage.

Tarnished Halo - Kill Heavy enemies while their Iron Halo is active.

A: Assault. No other way around it. Assault with hammer all the way. I doubt there is an easier way to do it. Sniper with melta charge buuuuuuuut... Just assault.

R:  Kill Heavy enemies while their Iron Halo is active or 2 seconds after their shield was destroyed/deactivated.

Grind them to Dust - As an Assault, kill 5 or more enemies in 1 match with Ground Pound.

A: Just be assault and deny other Anti-Aircraft ordeal. Pretty much the only way to play assault so this one is rather fast and easy to do.

R: Nothing to do here. Very easy.

- Death Launch - As a Vanguard, use the Grapnel Launcher to kill an enemy or assist a Squad Member in killing an enemy.

A: The one I didn't do yet. I'm at 4 right now and there is a thing that you need to calculate the amount of HP to leave before the hook so it will be a kill. This one either bugged or badly designed (I think bad design).

R: Make hooked enemy medal count. If I spend my hook but my teammate kills the enemy even in kill feed will be "me + teammate". So effectively it will be kill or assist but MAKE ASSIST COUNT. Landing a death blow is tedious. Especially doing that 30 times.

- On me - As a Bulwark, restore full armor to 10 or more Squad Members in 1 match with the Chapter Banner.

A: OMG it is much harder than it sounds. My teammates were running from banner like it was a plague. I had to time it in choke points so there would be no place to go from it. And there is no advice how to do that. You are in hands of your teammates. If they stay and allow armor to be restored - you are good. If not - tough luck but nothing you can do (except asking to stay in the area).

R: There is a medal dedicated to that bulwark restore (sorry I forgot the name: shield resorted or reinforced or something like that). This medal should count towards restores. It will make the ordeal much less dependent on the team (still to a degree but much less).

- Reconnaissance - As a Tactical, mark 4 or more enemies with a single Auspex Scan.

A: You are purely in the hands of your enemy team. If they will stack at some point then you'd better be there, be alive, have ability available and don't die before you get x4 scan (otherwise it will be for nothing).

R: Make it 3. 4 people is 2/3 of the enemy team. And if there will be Vanguard, Sniper and Assault - impossible to do. 3 out of 6 are somewhere else. 3 is still half but much more manageable. Other suggestion would be scan 5 different people in one match. So 5 times by 1 person or 1 time 5 ppl at once.

- Kill Score - As a Sniper, kill 5 enemies in 1 match while camouflages or within 2 seconds of Camo Cloak deactivation.

A: 2 is a little not enough to kill someone with SMG. If you land good headshots at point blank distance you can try to kill another sniper under 2 seconds. Other wise Fusil (aka git gud gun) or just stick with teammates and leech on kills. Other tactic you might employ is ambush a solo, keep em low, camo and finish the enemy. Any of those work. But just smg mag dump will not do the trick in most cases because it takes a little more than 2 seconds.

R: Make it 3 seconds? Make assist count too? In general it is not as hard but could be a little better.

- Beacon of Light - As a Heavy, kill or assist Squad Members in killing 10 or more enemies in 1 match while Iron Halo is active.

A: You can activate halo during shooting. So damage - activate - kill - deactivate. Other advice is to take melta and hang out in tunnels.

R: Count it for 2 seconds after deactivation/destruction. That will make the ordeal more reliable to do. It is 10 kills/assists already. Or make it 5-7 in one match.

Blinded by the light - Blind 3 enemies with 1 shock grenade.

A: You could try to couple it with the scanning ordeal. First you can see enemies. Second - tactical can carry 2 grenades. That means more chances to get it done. otherwise just throw a nade and at some point it will be done.

R: Make it 2 blinded at the same time. Or change blind to blind and slow.

 - Shredding shrapnel - Kill 3 or more enemies with a single Frag Grenade.

A: During all my time doing all those ordeals I've got 1. So is it completely impossible? No, in couple of years of constant PvP it will be done. But not sooner.

R: Change it to just kills with grenade and maybe change it to 50. Now it is 30 triple kills. That would make it more fair and at least feasible to do.

The rest like play X games of this mode is just there and nothing wrong with those.

I'm sure there are some people who did it all already. In general even I prove that at least 89-90% are doable. BUT there is a bigger question to it.

WAS IT FUN TO DO?

No. Not a single moment. I played as a complete retard. I abandon team and objective in almost every match. I would rather get killed or just jump from a cliff to get my ability ready faster than play the game and get it naturally (in annihilation it is actively harming my team). I don't care if we lose at this point. I even hope for a worse team so I would have more chances to complete some ordeals. Am I proud of it? No, but if this is the design developers wanted to push - that is the result.

My plea and goal is to bring devs attention that those are done poorly. I don't suggest take my word on it or ask my advice. But at least play PvP with each class (not in the office, go to public lobbies) and see how does it work. I don't think devs had any malicious intent with those but maybe just some lack of knowledge played a curtail role in this whole process.

Another solution to those would be allow ordeals be completed in private pvp lobbies. It will defeat the whole purpose of ordeals but it will be an ok solution nonetheless

If you want more info feel free to tag me. I will be glad to share every bit of knowledge I have regarding those tasks.

Yep, never been a fan of any type of achievements like these in any game. I mean, this could be done well and give players both - fun and something useful (a weapon upgrade or some cool cosmetics), however the execution of ordeals in SM2 is pretty poor, I do not focus on doing them, if I happen to do some of them-cool but I am not pursuing them, why would I, it's boring and often destroys the match for other players like the op described.

I can easly stand PvE ordeals, because all it takes to complete them is time and a little bit of effort.

I cannot stand PvP ordeals, because it takes not only time and effort, but also LUCK.

I like how Devs listened and tried to implement penance mechanic from Darktide to their game but its still not the same and it's not better. In Darktide you complete penances naturally with progess in your skill and character development, so all "ordeals" there are done by investing time and becoming better.

Can't say same about SM 2 PvP ordeals where you have to throw grenade to kill 2 enemies or blind 3 or complete some requirements that you have 0,01% chance to complete. Look at vanguard PvP ordeals, good luck.

I agree. That is why I don't care about them.

I keep hating myself. Death launch is now at 22. Appeared easier than the rest. Maybe because it depends on my skill instead of LUCK!
