The AI Director has gone mental on lower difficulties post patch.

I thought this just happened once for me but then it kept happening and then saw some youtubers noticing this.  I tried on substantial, average and minimal and noticed the same thing,  There is a punishing amount of extremis enemies being spawned in now, especially double neurothropes.  I had not experienced this volume before the patch.  I could understand that this might be the cases in ruthless and lethal (barely started getting into ruthless before this).  

Overall impression is something is very much wrong with the AI director after the 4.0 patch.

Just had a level 2 game with 14 warriors, one carnifex and a whole ocean of gaunts spawn in. As soon as the carnifex died, a neurothrope spawned in.
The low level guys didn't stand a chance.

It's still crazy difficult on ruthless even after 4.1.

Too much enemies still, even in substantial... It's killing the fun

It is still wrong because things happen on easier difficulties that just shouldn't be there. At the very least, the first 2 difficulties is where the player should get a hold the map, how things work, what variants of things can spawn or happen, etc. It should be a literal walk in the park, and not much hustle. The 3rd difficulty is where I'd expect to test players fully and throw some speedbumps their way. In no way should you be getting mid-op bosses in the first 2 diffs, or get them to call reinforcements or spawn endlessly, or God forbid, spawn two of the flying nids that shield each other and constantly barrage you with attacks that only make you roll around like you're playing Souls-like.

Just figured I'd chime in. On Average 3 nights ago we got a double extremis spawn (2 zoanthropes and a lictor) on top of a carnifex and that was durring a massive enemy wave containing about 20 warriors (3 thorn spammers, 2 snipers, 10 swords, 5 whips) and an ocean of gaunts. I mean as a max level with relics I had a blast but my 2 buddies that just got the game and were only rocking mastercrafted and level 8... not so much.

Ran into the same exact situation last night while grinding Average difficulty for weapon XP. 2 Zoans and a Lictor amongst an absurd amount of warriors and gaunts, all while rolling around in about 12 square miles of thorns. Its not hard to clear since all my characters are lvl 25 but it turns my 20 minute XP grind into 35 minutes or more and for the same amount of XP at the end. Pretty annoying after 3-4 runs of that. Ive found that sometimes completely quitting out of the game and restarting from scratch can help the chances of this happening but Im sure theres no real science to that and Its just a coping mechanism to make me feel better.

When there's the horde of several thorn spammers and a sea of gaunts it becomes rapidly unplayable, especially in confined spaces. The whole terrain is covered in spikes, it's impossible to engage in anything. I had more than a few encounters with this situation like the sewer like portion of the last mission (is it execution? dont make me fire the game again)

And you can't "just shoot the thorns" because they instantly shoot more.
