Fix 6.0 GAME BREAKING Performance issues

The Issue:

Myself and many others are suffering severe performance issues which for many of us has made the game completely unplayable.

Essentially we are experiencing a sever drop in FPS, for me it starts off ok but quickly degrades over time until it reaches sub 30fps with extreme stuttering/hitching. This alone makes the game impossible to play but if continued the game crashes with no error report coming up. For others complaints include: static FPS drops e.g. -30fps, frame rates that are in the hundreds but drop to 30fps for a few minutes then come back up, greatly increased loading times and more.

For most of us this started after 6.0 but I have seen reports of the same issue as far back as 5.0.

Its important to add that this issue is not due to people not meeting the minimum requirements. Many of us have played the game extensively prior to this. It is not our hardware.

Why This is Unacceptable:

Space marine 2 is a full price game which retails at around £35-70 depending on the edition and format. Many of us pre ordered "Ultra", "Gold", or "Collectors" to gain access to the season pass. i.e. we paid for that to. This equates to around a 2 years of paid support for the game at the price Sabre set. In return we are due a functional game that is as advertised as well as DLC for those who have the pass.

As the game is currently unplayable for many of us, Sabre is breaching their contract with us, its that simple.

The Solution:

  1. Sabre/Focus, make and announcement acknowledging the game is broken for many players and state clearly what you are (hopefully) already doing to fix it. If you can give a timeframe please do that.
  2. Fix ALL game breaking bugs before doing anything else. If it means no more DLC or events until it is fixed, then I am sorry to those who can play the game, but that's what I am calling for. I am sure anyone effected by this feels the same.
It's unprofessional to have failed in fixing all the game breaking bugs at this point. That should be priority number 1.
  3. I do not want a refund, the game works for most people, so that is clearly a possible outcome.
  4. Re-Release any events people may have missed once the game is fixed.

What You Can Do:

To Get The Game Fixed:

  1. If the game is unplayable for you, or you just care about the games community and image, please up vote this page. It's top right, above the title of the post, the weird "Focus Together" symbol with the little arrow. Make sure you link your Steam account so that your Steam achievements add points to your profile. This seems to add more points to the posts you upvote which in-turn moves us up the list of post on this website. It could be wrong but it wont hurt to try anyway.
  2. If you have more time it will help you or at least us if you bring attention to this issue by sharing the page, commenting on videos and posts about the game and by contacting Sabre. You can do that here - Contact Sabre
Please note I have already had a discussion with Focus and Sabre but since I asked to make a complaint they have been ignoring me! I didn't say what the complaint was about either so this is very bad practice.
  3. Leave or change your review to negative on whichever platform you use until the game is fixed.
I have seen recent Steam reviews move from 80% to 79% over the past few days, so we are already having an impact.
  4. Lastly, leave a brief description of the problem you are having bellow, when it started, your PC spec and what you have tried to fix it.

To Try and Fix it Yourself:

Below are a list of possible solutions. For me none of these have solved the problem but some of them did delay the onset of performance issues. If you have a solution please share it bellow so everyone can benefit!

This one many sound obvious but Sabre/Focus will tell you to do it. Download and install and updates for: The game, Graphics drivers, Operating system. Try adjusting settings in game. Start at low 1080p setting, if it works slowly increase them. Validate the integrity of your files. backup your game saves then delete and reinstall the whole game. Disable 3rd party software that may be interfering. Change the files of the game to disc "C".

I was able to delay the onset of the performance degradation by following this up to the point where he downloads the FPS pack. I did not do that part. Hopefully it helps some of you.

A community member (username "Rennerrek") suggested deleting the "4K Texture Pack" for the game on Steam, stating that this worked for them.

To do this head to Space Marine 2 in your Steam library, go to SM2, got to the settings icon on the far right inline with the "play" button, click properties, DLC and untick the box for the 4K texture pack.
I did not have the pack installed so I tried installing it which didn't work. I deleted it afterward but it still didn't help.

Tidied up the OP and added some more info which may be useful.

Great job with the original post brother.
EDIT: Maybe this should be made again as a forum thread, what do you think?

It's incredibly jarring, and genuinely gamebreaking.

70 hours of playtime and I've always been impressed with the games performance on a 2070 Super and AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, at 2560x1440 resolution no less, but my game has dropped down to 15-20 fps. My performance is literally THREE TIMES worse now.

This is the kind of "bug" you would expect a rollback for, and I really hope they're taking this seriously.

It's absolutely insane that the game I bought runs this much worse months later.

absolutely agree.

UPDATE

Our numbers here have grown a bit since the original post and we are now almost at upvote 100k points.

The have been other post about this issue on Reddit and on here.

The Steam reviews have dropped another 1% from down from 80% when I made this post to 78%. Considering it has been only a few days since I started trying to gather everyone here that's a great result!

Sabre/Focus have made a statement about the upcoming 7.0 patch which can be found - Here

Regarding the game breaking issues we have been experiencing they have stated the following:

"Following that, we released the 6.1 Hotfix to help with a few remaining bugs and connectivity issues, mostly. Again, you can read the patch notes here.

We are aware that with these two updates, a few issues remain, such as:

  • FPS drops

  • Too many spore mines spawning at the same time

We’re actively working on it.

Hotfix 6.2 will arrive next week. It shall fix the spore mines issue and bring some balancing tweaks."

I have two problems with this:

  1. They are playing down this issue as just "FPS drops", when its not, its completely gaming breaking.
  2. They don't seem to be confident enough to even hint at this fixing the "FPS drops".

That's all for now. Keep doing everything I have recommended in the post and this should get fixed eventually. Lets hope we don't miss out on too much.

I don't understand why you've done this? I don't think the post was being drowned, we have 90k points in up votes thats tons!

We need all the people in one place so the scale of the problem can be seen. If we distribute votes amoung multiple posts we look smaller in number.

Please delete it before Focus delete the one with more votes using the common forum "no duplicate posts" as an excuse.

its because
1) Many ideas get eventually drowned out even with good amount of points, there are thousands of ideas here.
2) Though your post is great, this is a problem with the game rather than asking for a new implementation thus I feel like it should be on the forums until it is fixed. Forum posts are more frequently visited by admins as well.
Do you still think the forum post should be removed? Especially If they fail to fix it on the next hotfix, i believe forum is the place where we should be discussing an ongoing problem, would you not agree?

If you were worried about it being drowned out then why didn't you suggest to me to duplicate it in the forum?

If your plan is to wait for admins to see it then your approach is already weaker than mine and the one I suggest to everyone with this problem. If anyone reading this truly cares about getting this fixed they should contact Sabre and Focus asking to lodge a complaint. Additionally consider lodging one with Steam and GW, which I am about to do. Then, in those complaints, reference the single post with the highest number of individuals (what I am trying to create here) to demonstrate the scale of the problem.

If you want to keep it, fine, but if this one gets deleted as a duplicate you will be screwing hours of my work and the best chance everyone has had so far at getting so much as an acknowledgement of this problem.

Those are my main concerns. In my experience they are always full of admins with severe ego issues and their lackies just desperate to ruin someone's day.

Except, I DID suggest it to you brother:

You can literally find this comment, its still there. No need to worry now though, I've changed my original post on the forum thread.

Yeah and then you did it anyway. So why ask.

Also you called yours "FPS Drops" which isn't accurate for many of us because it omits important facts. The game is unplayable for many of us, calling it FPS drops plays the whole thing down.

Yeah you changed your post to be entirely your own, showing what you wanted. Its also a naff post showing you dont want to put in the work I did.

I'm having the same issue. I can run the game fully maxed at 100fps+ or near 200fps with frame gen but randomly the frame rate will plummet to 20-30fps and it'll stay like that, sometimes for 30 seconds, or even several minutes, then it'll snap back to normal randomly. I've tried the game fully maxed and fully potato and it happens on both configurations.

Ok I think I understand what you mean now. I have checked my DLC on Steam for this and I did not have the 4k Texture pack downloaded let alone installed. I will try downloading it and see if it helps.

Thank you for the suggestion , I will start a "possible solutions section" and add it to the OP.

It is quite frustrating that there isn't already a hotfix out there for something so game breaking, especially when it has been existing for a considerable amount of time by now. If they are going to break the game for some people, I would rather not have any updates or new content. Even if it werent me who drew the short straw, i would have thought the same. For example Im okay with them postponing the content till they fix all the crash and connectivity issues for people who have them. They should just fix their game for God's sake, it is a paid product, their first priority should be providing the customer that something actually works. I also do not understand how they keep breaking a game that works just fine prior to these updates...

Its bonkers! After this amount of time there shouldn't be any game breaking bugs.

Can you elaborate? Is this in the base game files???
