Patch 5.0 Bug Compilation and Thoughts

I hope this catches the eye of someone at Focus. This patch has some considerable issues, many of which I don't understand how they passed internal QA.


1. Controls and input cease working irregularly. There are already multiple threads about this on the steam discussion board and here. I seem to have been able to tie to controls being changed from default ones. Once changed, they seem to be unresponsive some times and responsive at other times with no clear consistent conditions. This makes the game flat out unplayable and needs urgent addressing.

2. Colours have once again been bugged in some manner. In the icon/markings palette Iron Hands Steel appears as Mephiston red, The Fang appears as White Scar, Auric Armor Gold appears as some kind of silver. Honorary mention goes out to Incubi Darkness which has been identical to Caliban Green since patch 3.0 I believe.

3. There is future, but not fully implemented, content in the armoury. If I browse the left shoulder icons, there are new ones at the bottom that link me to a research menu, complete with it's unique currency and so forth that is not part of the patch. Why?


That's all I can find as far as overt bugs go but if anyone else can find/think of some by all means post them in here. But besides that I have some thoughts.


- Balance is still is not great. As both I and the actual devs themselves have point out, overly spongy enemies is a problem. I don't feel like it's been satisfyingly addressed and this patch doesn't really try to tackle the issue. Poor balance will kill player counts if left to fester for too long. Look at the active players stats over time for Helldivers 2 and this becomes quite apparent.

- The matchmaking and online experience in PvE outside of the actual gameplay is still a major sore point. It's obviously in need of major reworking and some communication as to whether or not that is acknowledged and being worked on is due.

- Now that a couple patches have rolled out, I must say I feel a little disappointed in them so far. I am not one to insist that we need a major patch every other week or new content dropped at similar rates. A slower patch rate can be fine, so long as the patches remain proportionately substantial. I don't feel like that is the case here. The patches are all pretty slim from my perspective, especially given how easy and quick some things would be to fix, like broken colours, missing pattern types and things of similar scale. These are quick fixes, so why are there so few of them in every patch?


I'm a big fan of this game and I'm not saying it's on the brink of collapse or anything, this is just my honest feedback as a thinking fan of the game.

Yeah, I'm experiencing the first one there.


I rebind my items key to "Q" and have used it like that for a while now, but on the new version, 5.0, that doesn't work that well. I need to toggle sprint and then press "Q" to use the item.


Well, I hope they address all issues, thanks for the thread.

All solid points. 


The biggest change is they added Frame Gen, which is massive since this game is often CPU-bound. And this too is bugged...

- Mouse freezes in the middle of the first match I play, so no rotation/shooting. Happened twice today to me, and once to another PUG team mate. In order to make it work again I needed to get out the app on desktop (the game being windowed) and open Logitec G-Suite. No idea if all it takes is get out the game and in again, this is what I have done.

I'm having a lot of these issues, having my keybindings reset is annoying but my main problems are:


1. Dodging: Inputs sometimes just don't work an my marine just stands there. This is got so bad I had to try different keybinds as I thought my keyboard was broken.


2. Parrying: Sometimes it just doesn't work, my marine will do the animation but the attack just goes right through my weapon and then there goes most of my health. I thought as certain things are now client side my timing might have been off but it seems the game doesn't seem to know if I'm parrying or not even though it took my input. In case this is weapon related, this has happened on the chainsword and power sword, I haven't used any other melee weapons yet.


3. Raveners on lifts: As the lift wont raise it's barrier when enemies are on it there seems a problem with the Ravener. If it's the only enemy on the lift, when it burrow there's confusion here as technically there's now no enemies on the lift. This means the barrier gets raised, but now the players are locked into the lift location so the Ravener is guaranteed to re-burrow here. Therefore the console can't be used as the game is now waiting for the Ravener to return. This wouldn't always be a problem but if you have ranged Warriors who can see you then you're now stuck getting shot at until the Ravener can come back and be killed.


I expected big updates would be buggy but a damaged combat system like this is too obvious to miss.

My FPS in the previous patch was higher, it decreased in this patch around 20-25 frames. Also,  there are input lags and maybe some bug with the armor as I play in the substantial difficulty and just a hit from tzaangor consumed 2 plates. Moreover my mouse stopped working middle fight in the obelisk mission. Lastly, my problem with the texture not loading (they said it has something to do with my 3050ti 4gb) is still there. There are some people who has reported this same problem since the launch so please fix that. My question is how do we know if the problem that I reported reached the team, as my problem persisted for 3 months now...

I agree, fixes have been sparse and game updates have been lackluster. currently my biggest issue is the the parry rework, AGAIN. seriously it was fine last patch why change it for the 4th or 5th time? it's still the only real option to mitigate damage from uninterruptible enemy attacks. the new balanced and block system kind of works but not really? still inferior to fencing so this nerf just feels antagonistic

This update proves that they absolutely DO NOT have a proper internal QA team, and if they actually do, then the producers, devs etc. that are higher in the chain just DGAF about fixing stuff. Seriously.... why is it after EVERY PATCH there's always an issue with colors?!?!?!?  Complete incompetence. 


And to make it COMPLETELY CLEAR to Devs etc.  I stopped playing this game because of the sloppy way the games is currently being handled, and I think a lot of you need to follow suit till they get the message. 

STOP TREATING THIS GAME AND YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE GARBAGE!

Big bug for me is on the PS5, Type D and C controller mapping has reload and special abilities mapped to the same button, Triangle. Which is unfortunate, I prefer to those button layouts for physical reasons regarding my hands. Hope they fix it soon.

Interesting you point out the irregularly not working controls, I thought it was just me, but sometimes I can't fire my weapon or activate/deactive my skills.  It felt quite odd.


Also, I was under the impression that the game would be less stressful and better playable but that expectation was fulfilled like 10%. It is indeed less stressful, but nowhere near enough as I'd thought. The worst offender is when I keep getting hit during gun strike, which is especially bad for me because I play heavy and my melee is useless so I keep getting owned every time 2 or 3 warriors come at me (which is most of the time during ops). And heavy bolter still sucks and is virtually a death sentence when carried into higher diffs.


Anyway, as usual, I'm happy they keep adding content, especially successor chapters. Can't wait for others, or even addition of unknown foundings, my favorite Astral Claws and Soul Drinkers. In most cases, they wouldn't even have to add new colors, just add symbols and insignia and we're good.

I upgraded all my weapons to relic and after replaying all the ops today I deleted the game, but I will come back maybe at the end of winter to see what they changed/added as for now it seems that changes are way too erratic and slow and in a couple of months there will also be a lot of new content worth exploring. Meanwhile there are other games to play.

To expand on the bug list:

- The new Dark Angel Tactical shoulder icon is labeled fire support, which is incorrect. The colour of the "6" is also not editable, despite being different colours in some of the chapter presets.

I didn't know if it's helpful or not, but the more freezing seems to be unlocking the mouse outside of the game. When it happened to me I had it being up my windows start menu. I hit the menu key on the keyboard and it cleared. It could have been a fluke, but it's at least somewhere to look. If you can hit the windows let twice and consistently clear it, that's also good to get that info out there too. I haven't been able to try that myself yet.

I've also noticed that I can not activate Iron Halo while im sprinting/running, was it always the case? Because my muscle reflex has been trying to use it and it just didn't work at all, not even once, I had to stop each time.

LENS GLOW IS NOW GONE.  That badass glow that made our Astartes look gigachad and intense is now gone with the new lens colours. This is especically noticeable on Assault and Heavy. Now its completely gone with this new, dull, plastic look. Its horrible and bland. 


Again, why fix what isn't broke? Rule of cool, not rule of lame.

They touched the Iron Halo in regards to when you can activate it, my guess is they did it in a ham-fisted way unsinging the wrong logic gates to add new statements resulting in the logic "may activate Iron Halo when player is: [specific states, none of which include running/sprinting]" I don't know what it looked like before but I am guessing it had logic statements restricting use of it before rather than saying when you can use it. Like you could not use it while in a gunstrike, execution, or knockdown but could freely use it while standing still, running, walking, in heavy stance basically any of the states not excluded then they added inclusive arguments which by proxy excluded any state not included.


That is my guess at what happened anyway, it is a very common patching error when adding things to existing logic to use the wrong logic gates.
